In a recent episode of Lens on Singapore by The Business Times, Professor Wei-Jun Jean Yeung, Director of Social Sciences at the A*STAR Institute for Human Development and Potential (A*STAR IHDP), shared her perspectives on the anxieties some Singaporeans experience today. Her message is clear: these concerns should not be dismissed as simply self-imposed. While economic indicators point to stability, lived experiences can tell a different story โ€” a gap that A*STAR IHDP studies through its research on families, life transitions and social development across the life course. Drawing on her research, Prof Yeung highlights that while many young Singaporeans still aspire to marry and have children, growing delays in achieving these milestones may eventually lead some to forgo them altogether, with implications for Singaporeโ€™s declining birth rate. Alongside Associate Professor Walter Theseira from the Singapore University of Social Sciences, the discussion offers a more nuanced understanding of how people navigate aspirations, pressures and uncertainty today. It also shows how research can better inform support for Singaporeans' health, well-being and development over time. โ–ถ๏ธ Watch the full discussion: https://lnkd.in/eeJqYbAX #EnhancingLives #ResearchExcellence #SocialResearch #Wellbeing #ASTARforSG
