Congratulations to Dr. Stacey-Ann Lee from Mucosal Infection Lab, A*STAR ID Labs on receiving the #NCID Catalyst Grant! This grant funds young clinicians/researchers in the Health and Biomedical Sciences infectious disease priority areas such as #antimicrobial resistance, vector-borne diseases, respiratory tract infections and sexually transmitted infections. Klebsiella pneumoniae (Kp) is a leading cause of antimicrobial-resistant infections worldwide. In Asia specifically, it is estimated that over half the population carries Kp in their gut. Despite this prevalence, we still don't fully understand how these bacteria survive in the intestine and occasionally emerge to cause invasive disease. This project leverages on our existing strength to model Kp infection in the gut to answer these questions and will further develop innovative techniques for isolating and profiling Kp directly from tissue samples. Promisingly, this provides us with more tools to understand and tackle antimicrobial-resistant infections for local and global benefit. At ID Labs, we are proud to support our young scientists as they continually break new ground and bring our research capabilities to new heights.
