🐟💉 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲. 🌏🧬✨ At A*STAR Infectious Diseases Labs (A*STAR IDL), our mission is to tackle infectious diseases that threaten human health. Yet the same expertise in 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 is now helping protect something equally critical—𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻. Working with UVAXX and Nanyang Technological University Singapore, our researchers are developing a 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁-𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲 against Scale Drop Disease Virus (SDDV), a devastating disease that threatens Asian seabass farming across Southeast Asia. Even though SDDV poses no risk to humans, the threat of Singapore’s food supply was reason enough to act. Led by Senior Fellow Prof Laurent Renia and Senior Scientist Dr Ken Loh, the team demonstrated that a 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶-𝗲𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲 provided the highest level of protection against SDDV. The team is now refining the vaccine and progressing towards 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺-𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 to assess its performance under real production conditions. As global challenges become increasingly interconnected, so too must our science. By applying our expertise beyond human health, we are helping build a more resilient future—for our food systems, our economy, and our communities.
