Did you know that the World Health Organization recently raised alarms about the growing threat of antifungal resistance, a concern that is becoming increasingly critical in global health? Following the release of the first-ever fungal priority pathogens list, four fungal species are classified as "critical," including Candida auris, a multidrug-resistant fungus notorious for causing severe hospital outbreaks and having limited treatment options. This critical topic was examined during the Emerging Fungal Infections Symposium - Understanding and Confronting Fungal Infections - an Underappreciated Public Health Threat, proudly co-organised by A*STAR Infectious Diseases Labs with Institut Pasteur, National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID), Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI), Skin Research Institute of Singapore (SRIS), and in close partnership with Temasek Foundation. We were privileged that Prof. Neil Gow (University of Exeter, UK) and Prof. Julian Naglik (King's College London, UK) were our keynote speakers.
