𝗔𝗣𝗩𝗜𝗖 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟯: 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄’𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 — 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆.🌍 The final day of the 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮-𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗩𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 & 𝗜𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 (#APVIC2026) closed with a powerful focus on one of the defining global priorities of our time: #PandemicPreparedness. A major highlight was the prestigious 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗼𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗢𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 delivered by Prof Dame Sarah Gilbert (Pandemic Sciences Institute, Oxford University). Her lecture was both a reflection on the transformative impact of vaccines and a compelling call to sustain investment in preparedness science. She underscored how vaccines continue to save millions of lives globally, while highlighting the importance of studying entire virus families in advance — before outbreaks emerge — to accelerate future response capabilities. That sense of urgency carried strongly into the Temasek Foundation-supported panel discussion: 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗩𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘀? Expertly moderated by Dr Fook Kay Lee (Head of Pandemic Preparedness, Temasek Foundation), the panel featured: • Prof Dame Sarah Gilbert  • Prof Joe Schmitt (PrepVax, Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) • Dr Rosemary Tan (Leyden Labs) • Dr T. Anh WARTEL, MD (International Vaccine Institute (IVI)) Five major themes emerged from the discussion: ⚡𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁-𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 — including conjugate #vaccines and emerging technologies such as outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) 🛡️𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗵𝘆𝗹𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 to “buy time” during the earliest stages of outbreaks 📋𝗘𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆, 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 to enable faster and more effective public health implementation 🤝𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲, 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 well before the next emergency emerges 🌍𝗘𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 — including learning from initiatives beyond Asia, such as Africa, and strengthening regional clinical trial capabilities across Asia Across three days, APVIC 2026 reinforced a shared reality: 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲 — 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.
