Congratulations to the S.C. Department of Public Health and the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services on the opening of the state's new Public Health and Environmental Laboratory! This $116.5 million, 140,000-square-foot facility replaces a nearly 50-year-old lab, providing expanded capacity, advanced technology and enhanced flexibility to meet South Carolina's evolving public health and environmental testing needs. The lab supports a wide range of services, including newborn screening, infectious disease testing, emergency response, drinking water analysis, environmental monitoring and radiological testing.
