Sheelagh Carpendale, a Professor at Simon Fraser University, points out that data has been part of our lives since ancient times. For example, she notes that archaeologists have discovered a 30,000 year-old bone with a lunar calendar etched onto it. Carpendale, who is the subject of this week’s People of ACM profile, was recently named an ACM Fellow for contributions to expanding the diversity of data comprehension through innovative interactive visualizations. In the interview, she discusses how her initial career in the arts informed her work in data visualization. She also outlines ways we can make people more comfortable with data, as well as some interesting trends in the field. Read the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/ewDx9D4E
