Cloudflare spent years convincing the internet that safety could be outsourced. Need protection from bots, scrapers, abuse? Put Cloudflare in front of it. Now they launch /crawl, an endpoint that can crawl an entire website from a single URL and return content as HTML, Markdown, or structured JSON for AI workflows. That is bigger than a product update. It is a reminder that the internet was never truly “safe.” It was only guarded as long as the economics favored guarding it. Then AI happened. Suddenly web data became too valuable, too strategic, and too monetizable to keep behind the same old narrative. So the real insight is not that Cloudflare built a crawler. It is that the company once associated with defending the web is now helping industrialize access to it. The March 10, 2026 launch frames /crawl directly around training models, RAG pipelines, and large-scale content research. AI did not break the web’s defenses. It exposed that those defenses were always conditional. And once demand for web data exploded, “protection” quietly started making room for “extraction.” #cloudflare
