I couldn’t have asked for a better moment to finally share this publicly — in the middle of one of the world’s largest global AM events, Formnext - Where ideas take shape. Together with my colleague Prof. Antti Salminen, we dreamed of building 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶-𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗣𝗕𝗙-𝗟𝗕, when we first started the DMS Group at the Turun yliopisto - University of Turku, neraly 5 years ago. Today, that dream takes a major step forward. I am proud and humbled to 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗠𝟰𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗺𝗮, 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗨𝗥𝗘𝗞𝗔 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘂𝗺 that brings together an exceptional group of researchers, industrial partners, and technology leaders. The project focuses on something especially close to my heart — 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗺𝗮 𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 — an area I have carried with me throughout my scientific journey. This marks one of the most exciting and meaningful milestones of my academic career so far. What makes this even more special is how it began. Nearly three years ago, during a casual conversation with my former colleague and dear friend Dr. Nicholas Curry, we asked ourselves: “𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶-𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗠 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗺𝗮 𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆?” That small idea stayed alive, grew, and — thanks to Nick’s encouragement — eventually became the seed for AM4Plasma. This entire journey has taken almost three years — from the first idea and early discussions to building the consortium, submitting the application, and going through a long review process. And I genuinely feel we now have one of the strongest teams possible for this challenge. As we begin this journey, I am looking forward to what will surely be a demanding, inspiring, and industrially relevant project. I couldn’t be more excited.
