A Successful 3rd year UCL Medical student intercalating in Surgical Science iBSc. I am constantly striving to stay up to date with new medical processes. I appreciate any guidance in my medical journey
I had the privilege of presenting my research at the Royal Society of Medicine last week as part of their poster showcase, and it was an incredibly inspiring experience. The day featured expert-led sessions on the safe application of AI in healthcare, including talks on imaging AI, practical implementation pathways, medico-legal considerations, and NHS-specific deployment challenges. These discussions sparked some thought-provoking reflections for me around: - The need for robust local protocols to guide safe AI use within each Trust - NHS indemnity responsibilities and how accountability ultimately sits with the hospital and supervising consultant - Continuous monitoring of AI tools, including drift detection, error-pattern analysis, and the safety impact of software updates - Comparing Neural Engine-based models and LLMs, and the challenges of adopting fast-evolving technologies in systems where device integration takes years - The importance of clinical development teams who bridge the gap between industry innovation and real-world patient safety I really valued the chance to present my poster, share ideas, and learn from such a diverse group of clinicians, scientists, and innovators. The environment felt genuinely collaborative and supportive. A special thank you to my supervisor, Liam Barrett, for his ongoing guidance and encouragement. Iβm looking forward to continuing this work and contributing to the growing conversation about how we can constantly maintain patient safety.
