Oftentimes we are promised a "better life" as a result of the efforts our families have went though in order to reach the U.S., but that is not always the case. Immigration trauma and its after effects are real, but a lot of the generations before us view this trauma as a cultural norm, and any indicator of mental illness from this trauma is "weakness." Mental health support is important for the betterment of oneself, as well the collective latino community. The process of researching and creating this article was very educational for me, and I hope as readers you can learn something as well. Con paz y amor, siempre!
