27 years ago today, the launch ceremony for HMAS Sheean took place at the Osborne Naval Shipyard, led by the sister of its namesake, Ordinary Seaman ‘Teddy’ Sheean.   Teddy Sheean was anything but ordinary.   In 1942, serving as a gunner aboard HMAS Armidale, he remained at his post during a fierce attack, defending his shipmates to the end. His bravery is now recognised with Australia’s highest military honour, the Victoria Cross.   Today, his legacy lives on in HMAS Sheean, one of Australia’s Collins Class submarines proudly serving in the Royal Australian Navy fleet.   For this #PhotoFriday, we honour Teddy Sheean and the sailors who serve aboard HMAS Sheean, past and present. 📸 Department of Defence, ABPH Joanne Edwards   #onthisday #submarinehistory
