Congratulations to ASC Chair Jim McDowell AO! Jim was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the King’s Birthday Honours on the weekend, in fitting recognition of his significant contribution to the nation. His remarkable career of service and leadership spans public administration, defence capability, science and technology, and education governance. Most recently, Jim served as Deputy Secretary of the Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group in the Department of Defence (2023-25). He’s also a former Chief Executive of the South Australian Department of Premier and Cabinet, BAE Systems Australia and Nova Systems, Chair of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, and Chancellor of the University of South Australia. Throughout his career, Jim has demonstrated integrity, strategic insight and strong commitment to building sovereign capability. We are indeed fortunate to benefit from his experience and continuing leadership at ASC. Again, congratulations Jim.
