How do you create a new civic landmark for one of the world’s most dynamic cities? At the centre of Hong Kong’s major urban regeneration of the former Kai Tak Airport site, Kai Tak Sports Park is a new destination for sport, entertainment and community life. At its heart sits the 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium, designed as an iconic new landmark looking out across Victoria Harbour. Its shimmering façade of 27,000 triangular aluminium panels draws inspiration from Hong Kong’s identity as the Pearl of the Orient, while a retractable roof, stadium cooling system and flexible seating with an innovative stage pocket system all allow the venue to host world-class sporting fixtures, concerts and major events year-round. The result is a highly adaptable stadium as part of an extensive sports park designed to serve both the city and its community for decades to come. #WeAreArup
