Yesterday, the digital world held its breath. For a few chaotic hours, the engine room of the software industry--GitHub--went silent. It was a universal experience for developers everywhere: the sudden failed pushes, the frantic checks, and the collective realization that a pillar of our workflow had vanished. It was a wild reminder of how much of our digital world is built on a handful of services. When GitHub sneezes, the entire industry feels it. But every outage has a silver lining, right? It was a global, unscheduled drill for: - Remembering the importance of local commits. - Testing our disaster recovery... whether we wanted to or not. - Forcing us to take a break and maybe even see some sunlight. We all came back online, but the lessons remain. Commit early, commit often, and maybe have a backup plan for your backup plan. How did you handle the downtime? #githubdown #softwaredevelopment #devops #softwareengineering #postmortem
