Perhaps Toyota must do what GM is doing (rebuilding trust in its engine). Toyota's recent Tundra recall expansion isn't just a parts recall. Toyota's engine crisis is a direct referendum on the entire auto industry's shift from large, naturally aspirated V8 engines to highly pressurized, downsized twin-turbo V6 engines. When these catastrophic failures happen at 30,000 or 44,000 miles, truck owners stop blaming a single component. They start questioning the entire engineering strategy!
