What can 1,500-year-old amphora tell us about the Mediterranean trade in Late Antiquity? Quite a lot, it turns out. We are happy to publish the first original research article in Archaeological Studies. An exciting milestone for our journal! In this study, Professor Dr. Davide Tanasi, Dr. Rosa Lanteri, Dr. Filippo Pisciotta, and Dr. Enrico Greco analysed ten amphorae recovered during excavations at the Late Roman Villa del Tellaro using liquid chromatography coupled to a high-resolution Orbitrap mass spectrometer. By identifying organic residues preserved within the ceramic vessels, the team reconstructs the commodities that once traveled through ancient trade networks. šŸ“– If you are interested in archaeological science, residue analysis, Roman trade, or the application of metabolomics to cultural heritage, we invite you to read the full article. #Archaeology #ArchaeologicalStudies #Archaeometry #OpenAccess https://lnkd.in/gJb9F_nu
