Probably the most sustainable city hall in the world. 🌍 The new Roeselare City Hall has officially been awarded the #BREEAM Outstanding certificate, placing it among the most sustainable buildings globally. What makes this project stand out? Sustainability was not an add-on. It was the starting point. From day one, we worked with an integrated approach, embedding sustainability into every design choice. Some highlights: β€’ 99% circular demolition and reuse of materials β€’ 1.4 million liters of water saved annually through rainwater recovery β€’ 95% of solar energy used directly within the building β€’ Connected to a local heat network and fully gas-free β€’ 30% reduction in heating energy compared to the previous city hall β€’ Strong focus on wellbeing, comfort, and advanced acoustics β€’ Biodiversity integration: green public courtyard and nesting spaces for swallows β€’ Smart Wi-Fi routers that don’t consume energy outside working hours β€’ Continuous involvement of users (staff and citizens) throughout the project Arcadis played a central role as sustainability advisor and BREEAM expert, ensuring that sustainability was fully integrated, from the first design to final delivery. This milestone was made possible through great collaboration with Stad Roeselare, B-architecten, Bressers Architecten, Atelier Arne Deruyter, Monument Group, EEG GROUP, and Algemene Bouw Maes nv. Together, we are setting a new standard for sustainable #PublicBuildings. #Sustainability #CircularConstruction #Teamwork
