📘 “When people can’t access safe housing, everything becomes less stable: health, work, family safety and recovery after disasters.” 📘 ARC Justice’s new report – Where do we go now? Renters’ experiences of housing precarity and climate disaster – explores what recovery looked like for renters after the 2022 Victorian floods. The report highlights how climate disasters interact with an already strained regional housing system, where low rental supply and insecure housing can leave people with limited options and little bargaining power. It also identifies the important role of trusted local organisations in helping renters navigate legal issues, housing instability and recovery support. As disasters become more frequent, the report argues renter experiences need to be far more visible in policy and disaster planning conversations.
