📰 When local stories connect the dots 📰 The challenges facing regional Victoria don’t fit neatly into one category. Housing. Insurance. Disaster recovery. Access to justice. They’re all connected. A recent Bendigo Advertiser feature highlights several major pieces of ARC Justice’s work, bringing together the stories, research and advocacy that are helping drive conversations about the future of regional communities. The article draws on our Impossible Decisions and Where do we go now? research, which captures what people have told us since the 2022 floods. The message is clear. Too many people are being priced out of insurance. Too many renters are left with little control over what happens after disaster. And too many people don’t realise they have a legal issue until they’re already in crisis. These aren’t isolated stories. They’re becoming the reality for more regional Victorians. The feature also highlights the importance of working together. We're proud to collaborate with Federation of Community Legal Centres, Victoria Law Foundation, Monash University, Financial Rights Legal Centre, Financial Counselling Victoria, Finity, the Resilient Building Council and many other partners to help ensure the experiences of disaster-affected communities shape policy and reform. It’s also encouraging to see this work recognised by Victorian Minister for Climate Action Lily D’Ambrosio MP, who recently visited Bendigo and is pictured in the spread with ARC Justice CEO Damian Stock and Bendigo West MP The Hon Maree Edwards MP.
