What happens when particle dynamics get too complex for classical computers to simulate? A new experiment in Physical Review X uses an ultracold atom-based quantum processor to tackle the chaotic dynamics of a Bose-Hubbard system. It achieved performance three orders of magnitude faster than a leading supercomputer, helping to distinguish distinct physical phases long considered out of reach for classical computation.
