This week at the Association for Computational Linguistics 2026 in San Diego, we joined the research community as a Platinum Sponsor and hosted a happy hour that brought together researchers and AI leaders. Across workshops, several themes consistently emerged: improving the reliability of LLM-as-a-Judge systems, strengthening multilingual and cross-cultural evaluation, developing community-grounded benchmarks and moving toward standardized evaluation frameworks that can be shared across the research community. The discussions also reinforced the importance of measuring what models omit, not just what they generate and the real-world implications of evaluation quality in domains such as healthcare and mental health. Appen also presented "Cultural Nuance Benchmarking for Machine Translation in Multilingual LLMs": https://lnkd.in/efcHE9fb Thank you to everyone who stopped by the booth, joined us at the happy hour, and shared their perspectives throughout the week. We look forward to continuing the conversation.
