Modernisation is more than just building new. It also means responsibly retiring infrastructure that has reached the end of its service life. After more than 20 years in operation, quay crane QC907 has been decommissioned at Valencia, APM Terminals Spanish Gateways, as part of the terminal's ongoing equipment renewal programme. Replaced by two new Liebherr ship-to-shore cranes, the upgrade increases lifting capacity and outreach to accommodate larger vessels, improve productivity and support more reliable operations. Just as importantly, materials from the decommissioned crane are being recycled in line with the terminal's sustainability commitments, recognising that responsible infrastructure also means considering its full lifecycle.
