Reducing emissions in one of the world's busiest gateways. Today at the Cabinet headquarters in Cairo, Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT) signed a power purchase agreement with Egypt’s New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), in collaboration with the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), in the presence of H.E. Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt. Through this agreement, the terminal will source 100% of its electricity from renewable energy. For shipping lines and cargo owners, this is a step towards more sustainable supply chains through one of the region’s busiest gateways, helping reduce emissions while maintaining the efficiency and reliability they depend on. The shift is expected to eliminate around 30,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually, and could help accelerate the adoption of renewable energy across Egypt’s port sector.
