I chose to become an FDE when it wasn't cool. When the big names like Google, Microsoft, etc weren't hiring them. I've been in this role for 6 months and gained enough insights to know who or who isn't a fit for this role. I believe having been a Software Engineer at Google before I eventually became a Forward Deployed Engineer, gives me unique first hand perspective into this role.
