The influential Andalusian polymath and jurist Ibn Rushd, known in the West as Averroes, was born in Córdoba on this day in 1126. In Europe he is best known for his many commentaries on Artistotle, which rekindled European interest in the great Greek philosopher. At the moment we have only one work by Averroes in our online inventory: "De beatitudine anime", on the beauty of the soul. It is part of a collection of seven treatises on medicine and philosophy, edited by Alessandro Achillini (1463-1512), of which four are pseudo-Aristotelian works that had been well known since the 13th century or earlier.
