📣 The next phase of the CAPTN Initiative has officially started. With the funding approval for Fjord Area 3, we are taking a decisive step towards bringing autonomous navigation into safe, certifiable operation.👏 🚢🚀 At Anschütz, we will continue to drive the development of highly automated and autonomous navigation on the Kiel Fjord. Our focus in the project is to enable MS Wavelab to operate from berth to berth with a high degree of automation, monitored from a Remote Operations Centre (ROC). Building on the digital test field created in previous CAPTN projects, we are now moving beyond validation towards real-world application. Key topics include: 👉 Highly automated navigation on certified systems 👉 Automated manoeuvring in confined environments 👉 Reliable collision avoidance in dense traffic 👉 Verification and certification of autonomy 💡 We draw on extensive experience: from CAPTN trials on the Kiel Fjord to OPEX demonstrations with the German Navy and the SeaSEC Challenges Weeks 2026, proving autonomous capabilities in demanding operational scenarios. With Fjord Area 3, we are now enabling deployable solutions: opening commercial use cases such as ferries and navigation assistance systems, supporting security-relevant applications, and strengthening technological sovereignty. Project partners in Fjord Area 3 include F&E GmbH, Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, Kiel University of Applied Sciences (HAW), ADDIX GmbH, Wissenschaftszentrum Kiel and Anschütz.
