'young, gifted and black.' that's how i felt after 3 days over this easter break, where i spent my time at the University of Cambridge, as part of the target oxbridge cohort of '26-'27, organized by Rare Recruitment! truly academic and resilient people of colour from all over the uk joined together to explore the challenges and successes of black people/poc at cambridge. it consisted of lectures centered around maths, engineering (aerodynamics), physics and astronomy, and i also got to take part in a supervision around information enthropy and how this can be applied to real world engineering and coding. we also had an engineering session on practical skills ran by Jinx St.Léger, who me and a couple of other peers talked to about being a woman of colour at cambridge in the engineering department, and the truthful conversation about her experience opened our eyes. this residental, where i stayed at Jesus College Cambridge, genuinely made me believe that i could have a space in those not-exactly-four walls of cambridge and has also given me more information about what college i would want to apply to. i met some wonderfully inpsiring friends who i'm sure will stay connected for the next couple of years! thank you so much to everyone i met and the rare team. this residental made me envision a future here! #TargetOxbridge #YoungGiftedandBlack #STEM #WomenInSTEM #Engineering massive THANK YOU to the wonderful friends i made: Xiahne Wright Natalie Agyemang Saul Wheeler Barak Bruce Tiara Bada Rawan Adam James Ezenwanne Nagla A.
