South-South knowledge exchange on camel pastoralism in Ethiopia ๐Ÿช๐ŸŒ Coinciding with World Camel Day, the first of two training workshops organised by the #SUSCAMI project took place in Adama, East Shewa Zone, Ethiopia ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡น. A fitting moment to celebrate camels and the pastoral communities whose livelihoods, food security, and cultural identity are closely connected to them. Around 60 local camel herders, milk sellers, collectors, and retailers together with Hassanuur Hassan Kalla & Florian Kรถhler from the #AHTS_team came together to exchange experiences and receive training on key topics related to camel pastoralism and camel milk value chains ๐Ÿฅ›. The workshop covered camel management, nutrition, healthcare, disease prevention, milk hygiene, handling, marketing, value addition, and cooperative organisation. A special highlight was the participation of guests, Hanwant Singh Rathore & Ilse Kรถhler-Rollefson, from the Indian NGO Lokhit Pashu-Palak Sansthan (#LPPS) ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ, who shared their long-standing experience in supporting camel pastoralists and promoting camel milk marketing in Rajasthan. This South-South exchange created space for mutual learning, lively discussion, and shared reflections on the challenges and opportunities facing camel pastoralists in both countries ๐Ÿซฑ๐Ÿพโ€๐Ÿซฒ๐Ÿฝ. The workshop series will continue in Yabelo, Borana Zone, bringing the exchange to another important pastoral region. We look forward to sharing more from the field. #WorldCamelDay #CamelPastoralism #CamelMilk #Pastoralism #SustainableLivestock #KnowledgeExchange #Ethiopia #India
