From questionnaire design to data communication – a module in practice 📊 The module "From Conceptualization to Communication" is part of the Sustainable International Agriculture (#SIA) Master's programme of The University of Göttingen & Universität Kassel gives students hands-on experience with the full arc of empirical research. The teaching team guides participants through three connected parts theoretical background on and the design of questionnaires working with real field data, and compiling and presenting findings as a poster. The first part focuses on the basics of questionnaire development with different tools, this year they used #KoboToolbox. Last week marked its highlight because students had the opportunity to practise conducting interviews with their questionnaires to interview via various modes, i.e. in person, via telephone, and sending around the questionnaires per mail. They spoke directly with Department of Animal Sciences (#DNTW) PhD students from the University of Göttingen and conducted telephone interviews with #AHTS_team PhD students from the University of Kassel. Yesterday, the group reflected on the differences between the in-person, telephone, and online interview mode and what these mean for data quality and research practice. One (non-scientific) difference stood out in particular: the in-person sessions came with cake, dried pineapple, coffee, and tea something the telephone interviewees unfortunately had to miss out on ☺️☕🍰. A big thank you to all 6 Master students (Susan Egbo, Marie Koffi, Sadia Nusrat Nowshin, Inthujalini Paranthaman, Pranjal Saini, and Chikezie Ugwuokpe) taking the module for their curiosity and engagement, and to the PhD students (Mudashiru Akanji, Nour El Houda Amhaz, LD, MSc, Marie Bellersen, Alina Haus, Hassanuur Hassan Kalla, Ronja Merschmann, Markus Peschel, and Sèwanou Frimence A. Tossou) who volunteered their time 🌿. In the coming weeks, students will move into the second part working with field data from former AHTS team PhD researchers before compiling and presenting their own posters. We look forward to seeing the results and will keep the LinkedIn realm updated for sure! #UniversityOfKassel #UniversityOfGöttingen #SustainableAgriculture #HigherEducation #MasterStudents #ChallengeBasedLearning #ResearchBasedLearning #FoLL
