An update on the Krilo Eclipse collision. The first officer who was arrested has been released. Custody rested on the risk of influencing witnesses — once they'd all been questioned, the basis dissolved. The detention was about process, not about understanding the collision. Maritime experts told "Slobodna Dalmacija" — only anonymously — that they were puzzled the captain wasn't arrested too, since under the Maritime Code he carries far more responsibility than whoever held the helm. That it had to be said without names is its own data point. People knew. They just couldn't sign it. The system let them go when the procedure was satisfied. The defect history, the maintenance regime, the unsegregated channel, the years of warnings — that is still being ignored. When the casualty report lands, it's why steering was the only thing left. Thank you to everyone who made the original thread worth having — Gareth Lock, Seyed Ahmad Hashemi, David Howell, Michael Mason, Hrvoje Mihovilović, Krzysztof Marszałek Paul Chivers, Ron Butcher, Junior Schoeman and Stig Ole Johnsen. #HumanFactors #JustCulture #MaritimeSafety #SafetyII
