Nobody taught me these things. I had to get them wrong first. I got my first client before I had the fundamentals. I solved problems no one asked me to solve. I posted work before it was ready. I got underpaid until I understood what I was worth. None of it was the plan. All of it made me better. The designers I respect most aren’t the ones with the cleanest portfolios. They’re the ones who stayed curious. Who built the habit of noticing. Who showed up even when the work wasn’t perfect. Who understood the business they were designing for. Design isn’t something you do. It’s something you become. If you’re starting out in 2026 — the tools are the easy part. The mindset is the work. Stay curious. Stay visible. Know your worth.
