🌍 INTERPAT General Assembly 2025 | Brussels, Belgium 🌍 This week, INTERPAT members, partners, and invited guests convened in Brussels for our Winter 2025 General Assembly, a dynamic three-day program (17–19 November) focused on shaping the future of global IP policy, trade, and life sciences innovation. Across leadership exchanges, strategic workstream updates, expert panels, and academic insights, the Assembly fostered deep cross-sector collaboration at a pivotal moment for the global innovation ecosystem. Our deep dive into EU Competitiveness highlighted the critical need for urgent action in order for Europe remain one of the global leaders in high-tech industries, especially life sciences. ⚡Key messages⚡: legislation takes too long and far too often focusses on perceived problems of the past and not addressing the needs of the future. We need a new approach where early engagement with the private sector needs to be at the core so that solutions we build together reflect the real-world complexity of innovation and investment - safeguarding Europe’s long-term competitiveness. ⚡ Agenda Highlights included ⚡ ✅ IP Leadership, Governance & Strategy ✅ Communicating a Compelling IP Narrative focusing on strengthening the global case for IP in life sciences.  ✅ AI & IP  • Policy AI tools in IP Departments led by Andreas Poredda • AI & IP Policy with Corey Salsberg • Regional strategy sessions: China & Greater Asia, LatAm, India, and EU IP Policy workstreams, and forward planning for 2026. ➡️ Academic Network with Bowman Heiden from the University of Berkeley, highlighting emerging thinking from the innovation economics community. ➡️ Expert Session on the UPC • Prof. Aloys Hüttermann on developments in UPC case law.  ➡️ Panel: The Future of EU Competitiveness Moderated by Elise Melon, with industry and legal leaders Maarten Meulenbelt and Simona Popa discussing how Europe can strengthen its innovation competitiveness, sharing perspectives from other sectors. A huge thank you to all our members, partners, guest speakers, and colleagues for their active engagement and insight-rich contributions—including the many delegates from across global industry, academia, trade bodies, and government. The expertise and commitment continue to strengthen INTERPAT’s mission to support a robust, balanced, and innovation-enabling IP environment worldwide. Looking forward to our Summer 2026 General Assembly in Shanghai. #INTERPAT #IntellectualProperty #LifeSciences #EUcompetitiveness #InnovationEcosystem #TradePolicy #InnovationPolicy Henry Hadad, John D.
