I was intrigued (and a bit surprised) when a master’s student told me he had started reimplementing core single-cell preprocessing steps in Rust. His goal: to process larger single-cell datasets. One option was to ask for more powerful hardware. He chose the other path: to make the software more efficient. The result: the birth of SingleRust. Some months (and many lines of code) later, there is a first preprint: 📄 https://lnkd.in/eDh3FA6m And a steadily growing GitHub repo: 💻 https://lnkd.in/ecgRvyUX There is certainly no shortage of single-cell toolkits. But this one is fast, runs on modest hardware, and, importantly, is written with great care. Huge credit to Ian Ferenc Diks. This goes far beyond a pet project. Feedback welcome. Curious what the comunity thinks.
