Additionally, as part of my final-year research project, "Analysis and Evaluation of E-Liquids in Electronic Cigarettes", I explored how analytical chemistry can contribute to several UN Sustainable Development Goals. šŸ”¹ SDG 3 - Good Health & Well-Being: By evaluating nicotine label accuracy and screening for potentially harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs), the project generated evidence that supports consumer safety, informed decision-making and public health protection. šŸ”¹ SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption & Production: Significant differences were observed between labelled and measured nicotine concentrations, highlighting the importance of product transparency, accurate labelling, quality assurance and responsible manufacturing practices. šŸ”¹ SDG 9 - Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure: The project involved the development and evaluation of a stability-indicating HPLC method and the application of GC-MS techniques for VOC screening, demonstrating the role of analytical innovation in improving product quality assessment and regulatory compliance. The project also encouraged reflection on the sustainability challenges associated with laboratory research, including solvent consumption, repeat analyses and resource-demanding instrumentation, emphasising the importance of developing greener analytical methods in the future.
