Architect Joe Bing Wong was born in Clifton, Arizona in 1921. Educated at UC Berkeley, he returned to Arizona to have a prolific career in architecture, designing more than 550 private homes, banks, offices, schools and restaurants. He designed the Carefree sun dial and participated in naming Carefree's streets (with great humor!) He did much of his work in Scottsdale. He also designed Native American housing projects across Arizona, and sat on numerous advisory committees. I recently learned that two of his works are currently threatened. Wing's Restaurant at 1617 E. Thomas Rd., and the modern addition to the historic Clifton Elks Lodge are both under threat of demolition. Please read about Wing's, and if you are an Arizona resident, or just feel so compelled, reach out to the Phoenix City Council, especially District 6 Councilmember, Kevin Robinson 602-262-7491. https://lnkd.in/gPxrs_Q8
