𝐓𝐇𝐄 π‰πŽπ”π‘ππ„π˜ πˆπ’ πŽπ•π„π‘ ...and three letters will forever follow my name: #PhD!! As I was going back home after the defence of my #thesis at Luiss Guido Carli University, I started reflecting on the past four years. A question popped in my head: What would I tell my younger self, before the PhD started, if I could talk to him now? πŸ’­ The first thing I thought was: "𝐼𝑑 𝑑𝑒𝑝𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑠 π‘œπ‘› π‘¦π‘œπ‘’.Β  π‘‡β„Žπ‘’ π‘žπ‘’π‘Žπ‘™π‘–π‘‘π‘¦ π‘œπ‘“ π‘¦π‘œπ‘’π‘Ÿ π‘€π‘œπ‘Ÿπ‘˜, π‘‘β„Žπ‘’ π‘žπ‘’π‘Žπ‘›π‘‘π‘–π‘‘π‘¦ π‘œπ‘“ π‘¦π‘œπ‘’π‘Ÿ π‘π‘Žπ‘π‘’π‘Ÿπ‘ , π‘¦π‘œπ‘’π‘Ÿ π‘Žπ‘π‘–π‘™π‘–π‘‘π‘¦ π‘‘π‘œ π‘šπ‘’π‘’π‘‘ π‘‘π‘’π‘Žπ‘‘π‘™π‘–π‘›π‘’π‘  π‘Žπ‘›π‘‘ π‘‘π‘œ π‘π‘Žπ‘™π‘Žπ‘›π‘π‘’ 𝑙𝑖𝑓𝑒 π‘Žπ‘›π‘‘ π‘Ÿπ‘’π‘ π‘’π‘Žπ‘Ÿπ‘β„Ž... 𝑖𝑑 π‘Žπ‘™π‘™ 𝑑𝑒𝑝𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑠 π‘œπ‘› π‘¦π‘œπ‘’.Β  𝐼𝑑 𝑀𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑓𝑒𝑒𝑙 π‘™π‘–π‘˜π‘’ π‘Ž π‘ π‘œπ‘™π‘–π‘‘π‘Žπ‘Ÿπ‘¦ π‘Ÿπ‘’π‘›, π‘Žπ‘‘ π‘‘π‘–π‘šπ‘’π‘ . 𝐡𝑒𝑑 𝑖𝑓 π‘¦π‘œπ‘’ π‘‘π‘œπ‘›'𝑑 π‘π‘œπ‘šπ‘π‘Žπ‘Ÿπ‘’ π‘¦π‘œπ‘’π‘Ÿπ‘ π‘’π‘™π‘“ π‘‘π‘œ π‘œπ‘‘β„Žπ‘’π‘Ÿπ‘  π‘Žπ‘›π‘‘ π‘¦π‘œπ‘’ π‘π‘Ÿπ‘–π‘œπ‘Ÿπ‘–π‘‘π‘–π‘§π‘’ π‘‘β„Žπ‘’ π‘‘β„Žπ‘–π‘›π‘”π‘  π‘‘β„Žπ‘Žπ‘‘ π‘Žπ‘Ÿπ‘’ π‘π‘’π‘›π‘’π‘“π‘–π‘π‘–π‘Žπ‘™ π‘“π‘œπ‘Ÿ π‘¦π‘œπ‘’π‘Ÿ π‘π‘Žπ‘Ÿπ‘’π‘’π‘Ÿ, π‘¦π‘œπ‘’ 𝑀𝑖𝑙𝑙 π‘“π‘–π‘›π‘–π‘ β„Ž π‘‘β„Žπ‘’ π‘Ÿπ‘’π‘› π‘€π‘–π‘‘β„Ž π‘Ž π‘π‘’π‘Žπ‘’π‘‘π‘–π‘“π‘’π‘™ 𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑠𝑒 π‘œπ‘“ π‘ π‘Žπ‘‘π‘–π‘ π‘“π‘Žπ‘π‘‘π‘–π‘œπ‘›". Today, as I hold my PhD Thesis in my hands, I feel truly #satisfied. I think of the long hours of reading and writing, I think of the fatigue at the end of many days. But then I remember the excitment of putting together the pieces for a new interpretation of the Outer Space Treaty; or the emotion of teaching space law to young students and seeing a spark in their eyes, a thirst of curiosity, and a wish to know more. This is what holding a PhD means to me: fulfilling a vocation to search for new ideas and passing them on. πŸ’« I look around and I see the persons who decided to stand by me during the PhD, together with the ones who honored me of their guidance and knowledge.
