Oracle axed an estimated 20,000 to 30,000 employees via email on March 31, and many found out the way one worker described to TechCrunch: "I went to go sign into the VPN, and the VPN was like, 'this user doesn't exist anymore.' Then I called my friend, and I was like, 'Hey, can you see me in Slack?' And she said, 'No, your account's been deactivated.'" The severance offer that followed made things worse. Oracle did not accelerate soon-to-vest RSUs, meaning unvested stock was forfeited at termination. One employee lost $1 million in stock just four months from vesting. Some hybrid workers were also classified as remote, letting Oracle sidestep WARN Act protections in certain states. At least 90 employees petitioned for terms closer to what Meta, Microsoft, and Cloudflare offered their laid-off workers. Oracle declined to negotiate, and when contacted about the severance terms and failed negotiation, declined to comment. Source: Techcrunch #Oracle #TechLayoffs #Severance #RSU #AIJobs
