Bengaluru-based GalaxEye has launched Mission Drishti, India's largest privately developed Earth observation satellite, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 from Vandenberg, California. The 190 kg satellite combines Synthetic Aperture Radar and electro-optical imaging on a single platform, enabling all-weather imaging through cloud cover and at night, and is the result of more than five years of R&D. Suyash Singh, Founder and CEO, said, "Mission Drishti marks our first mission and the culmination of over five years of sustained R&D to develop this technology," adding that the company is "already witnessing strong global interest in the datasets enabled by our OptoSAR payload." GalaxEye has partnered with NewSpace India Limited, ISRO's commercial arm, for global distribution, with initial imagery expected to reach customers in the coming weeks. Pawan Goenka, Chairman of IN-SPACe, said, "Mission Drishti by GalaxEye is a fine example of" the tangible results now emerging from India's private space ecosystem. Founded in 2021 by five Indian Institute of Technology, Madras alumni, GalaxEye has raised over $20 million from investors including Infosys, Speciale Invest, and Rainmatter by Zerodha.
