Bryan Kim, a partner at Andreessen Horowitz since November 2020, has announced he is leaving the firm to launch his own investment fund, describing the decision as the toughest of his career and saying it is "simply time to build." Kim concentrated on early-stage seed and Series A investments during his time at a16z, with a portfolio that includes ElevenLabs, Function Health, Ash by Slingshot AI, and Mirage, reflecting a consistent focus on AI-driven applications across industries. The departure comes as Andreessen Horowitz continues to pour capital into AI, having established a dedicated $1.25 billion fund for AI infrastructure in 2024 and backed prominent startups including Mistral AI, xAI, and Safe Superintelligence. The firm has also raised over $15 billion in new capital across its investment vehicles, accounting for a significant portion of all capital allocated in the United States last year. Kim has not disclosed details about his new fund, but confirmed his intent to take a more hands-on role in shaping the next phase of AI. He currently serves on the board of ElevenLabs, one of the fastest-growing companies in synthetic voice and translation technology. #AndriessenHorowitz #BryanKim #VentureCapital #AIInvestment #TechNew
