Amazon is doubling down on Mumbai, and the numbers keep getting bigger. The e-commerce giant’s data services arm has pre-leased another 4 acres of land in Powai from Larsen & Toubro, committing to a rental outgo of over ₹650 crore across a tenure of 17 years and seven months. This is Amazon’s third land deal at the same Powai campus, after leases of 5.5 acres in 2022 and 4 acres in 2023. That takes its total footprint at the location to 13.5 acres, with the new lease running until February 2044 and including 24 rent-free months built into the term. The company will start off paying about ₹2.76 crore a month, with a 3 per cent annual escalation, on top of a ₹72 crore lease premium already paid. The Powai expansion comes right after Amazon picked up 10.6 acres in Palava from Lodha Developers for ₹125.13 crore, and it follows CEO Andy Jassy’s announcement of an additional $13 billion investment in India, pushing the company’s total planned commitment to nearly $48 billion by 2030. #Amazon #DataCentres #Mumbai #AWS #RealEstate Source: Business Standard
