Below I illustrated an anglicised version of the original Tagore’s bengali poem ‘Mind without fear’ (Gitanjali). Published in 1901, it continues to remind our intellectual leadership to emphasize the need for innovation and openness in culture. Discard any inkling towards inwards-looking strategy coming from the weight of our ‘dead habits’. Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high; Where knowledge is free; Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by the narrow domestic walls; Where words come out from the depth of truth; Where the clear stream of reason had not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habits; Where the mind is led forward by thee into even-widening thought and action- Into that heaven of freedom, my father, led my country awake.
