Computer Network Project Highlight: Smart Home IoT Network System Project Title: Smart Home & loT Automation System Team Members: Amta Hafeez & Minahil Rani Tools & Technologies: Cisco Packet Tracer, IoT Devices, Networking Protocols, Automation Logic Project Overview: Together with Minahil Rani , I designed and implemented a smart home IoT network simulation that connects and automates multiple devices — including motion detectors, smart lights, temperature sensors, fans, and webcams — through a centralized Home Gateway. The project demonstrates how IoT can transform traditional homes into intelligent, responsive, and secure environments. Key Components: •Central Gateway: Acts as the communication hub linking all smart devices to the control interface. • Smart Zones: Divided into functional areas — living room, garage, backyard, and comfort zone — each equipped with sensors, fans, lights, and sirens. • Automation Logic: Motion detectors trigger lights and sirens; temperature monitors adjust fans and humidifiers dynamically. • Security Integration: Cameras and smoke detectors ensure real-time monitoring and safety alerts. • Simulation Environment: Built and tested in Cisco Packet Tracer using real-time and simulation modes to validate connectivity and automation flow. Impact: This project showcases how IoT and networking principles merge to create smart, secure, and energy-efficient homes. It reflects strong skills in network design, device configuration, and automation logic, preparing for real-world applications in smart infrastructure and embedded systems. Learning Outcomes: •Mastered IoT device configuration and communication protocols. •Designed multi-zone automation with real-time simulation. •Strengthened understanding of network topology and data flow in smart environments. “Smart homes are not just futuristic — they’re practical, secure, and sustainable.” This project, built in collaboration with Minahil Rani, demonstrates how IoT can redefine modern living through innovation and teamwork.
