For me, rail is where engineering meets daily life, quietly moving people and goods while supporting cleaner cities. The rail industry is not standing still. It is rapidly evolving, driven by a shared commitment to both decarbonization and electrification. Seeing this firsthand and speaking with colleagues and customers around the world leaves me optimistic about what lies ahead. As we marked Earth Day on April 22, it’s a reminder of our shared responsibility. We're an industry that's focusing on how to reduce our environmental impact while keeping pace with growing demand for mobility. Rail already plays a leading role here. It is, by its very nature, the greenest mode of transport available today. But as an industry, we are pushing beyond this strong foundation to find new ways to make rail even more resilient and aligned with global climate goals. At ABB, this isn’t just ambition, it’s what we build every day. Our traction converters, motors, and energy storage solutions are designed to maximize efficiency for less waste, and better performance. Electrification is not just a trend, it is a transformation already underway, and we’re proud of driving it forward. Visiting our location in Sweden brought this to life for me, seeing how these technologies work together in practice, making operations smoother and the experience better for both passengers and operators. As public transport moves billions of passengers each year and cities are growing rapidly, the focus toward sustainable electrification and automation across rail networks is increasing. In this context, metro systems represent a smart solution for efficient and reliable urban mobility. A recent example is the order for Mumbai Metro Lines 5 and 6 in India, covering a complete, integrated traction and control solution. ABB’s traction converters, auxiliary converters, traction motors, and TCMS software, deliver high reliability, energy efficiency, and optimized lifecycle performance for this important urban mobility project. What stands out most to me is the strong spirit of collaboration across the rail ecosystem. Whether in conversations with our partners or on site with our teams, there is a clear, shared understanding that real progress on decarbonization depends on how well we work together. For me, this journey is about contributing to a future where sustainable transport is not an aspiration, but a given, where rail leads in clean, efficient mobility, and where we keep pushing that standard higher together. I am proud of the role we play in that, and excited about what we will achieve in the years ahead. #Rail #Earthday #ABB #EngineeredToOutrun
