Division President Traction ABB
My first 100 days as President of ABB's Traction division My first three months in this role have been both intense and deeply energizing — shaped by listening, learning, and connecting with our people and customers. Through site visits, town halls, open Q&A sessions, lunches with talents, and customer meetings across Europe and Asia, I’ve experienced our division firsthand and seen how our technologies come to life. In Lodz, Poland, I visited our traction and Mobile e-Power converters factory, where highly efficient power electronics are engineered to manage energy on board vehicles — a critical enabler for reliable, low-loss electric propulsion across rail and mobile applications. In Turgi and Baden, Switzerland, I spent time in our traction converter production and battery factory, combining power conversion, onboard energy storage, and lifecycle performance to support more efficient and flexible electric transport. In Berlin, Germany, and Genoa, Italy, I saw how our auxiliary converters and battery chargers are produced — ensuring reliable power supply for essential onboard functions such as HVAC, lighting, and control systems, directly contributing to energy efficiency, passenger comfort, and availability. In Shanghai, China, touring the traction motor factory highlighted the importance of electromechanical efficiency at the heart of the drivetrain. High-performance traction motors are fundamental to converting electrical energy into motion with minimal losses. Across all locations, what stood out most was the passion for our business, the depth of technical competence, and the strong intimacy our teams have with customers. The engagement during our exchanges was thoughtful, forward-looking, and energizing. At ABB, our technologies sit at the core of sustainable transport. By enabling efficient electric drivetrains, intelligent power conversion, and advanced onboard energy management, we help move more people and goods while using less energy — without compromising performance, reliability, or comfort. These principles are reflected in recent milestones. Securing the order to electrify 40 trainsets for Mumbai Metro Lines 5 & 6 strongly endorses our ability to deliver efficient, reliable solutions at scale. https://lnkd.in/e4Je3c55 The opening of our new traction hub in Maryborough, Australia, strengthens our local-for-local footprint and our ability to support resilient, sustainable rail networks. https://lnkd.in/emM3qvKm As I look ahead, I am more convinced than ever that our greatest strengths lie in our people, our technology, and the trust our customers place in us. Thank you to everyone who has engaged so openly during these first 90 days. I look forward to continuing this journey — and shaping the future of sustainable transport together. Best regards, Amina
