❗Most people have never heard of this form of alcohol-related brain damage until it’s too late. This #BrainAwarenessMonth, we’re helping raise awareness of alcohol-related dementia, specifically Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome (sometimes referred to as “wet brain”). This condition is caused by a deficiency in Vitamin B1 (thiamine) and includes symptoms associated with both: • Wernicke’s disease (e.g., confusion, impaired coordination, and vision changes) • Korsakoff’s psychosis (e.g., memory loss, difficulty forming new memories, and possible hallucinations) Early recognition and treatment are critical.
