It was great to have Lucy C. Cronin and Andreas Marschner in Brussels yesterday to launch new independent research from Frontier Economics entitled “How Amazon Powers Europe’s Low-carbon Growth and Competitiveness". This research confirms that decarbonisation and competitiveness aren't opposing forces. They're the same agenda. The data speaks is compelling. Between 2021 and 2025, Amazon invested €17 billion in low-carbon technologies across the EU and UK. These investments supported an estimated 144,000 jobs and added an estimated €11 billion in gross value across European economies. What does this look like in practice? ⚡ Energy — Amazon is the largest corporate purchaser of carbon-free energy in Europe. 260+ projects, over 10 GW of capacity. Long-term agreements that give developers like Iberdrola, Engie and Ørsted the certainty to bring new projects forward. 🚛 Transport — 10,000+ electric delivery vehicles as of late 2025, including a major order from Mercedes-Benz, expanded charging infrastructure, and continued investment in zero-exhaust-emission delivery solutions. 📦 Packaging — 100% recyclable, right sized, paper-based packaging across European fulfilment centres, working with partners across Europe's circular economy, like Mondi, Novamont and DS Smith. It is by businesses, policymakers and communities work together that we can truly progress at scale. I'm proud of the role Amazon plays in this space and am committed to working with partners to keep driving forward looking policy that delivers Europe's low-carbon economy.
