I’ve been watching Mad Men since high school, and Joan Holloway has always been my favorite. Christina Hendricks made her feel magnetic, charismatic, effortlessly funny, sharp, and endlessly interesting to watch. She’s the type of friend who judges you with love, tells you what you need to hear, and somehow leaves you feeling better for it. I finally decided to work on one of Joan’s scenes from the episode titled: “The Arrangements.” My experience with being in charge of administration in the funeral industry helped me with office dynamics in scenes. I always wish I had a scene partner for these, but I’m learning not to let that stop me. For now, I create with what I have, and that’s enough.
