🏆 The ALTANA Special Prize for Chemistry 2026 goes to "TerraTin"! Congratulations to Kaja Charlotte Hammels and Tue Minh Vu from Oldenburg, whose innovative business idea was honored at this year’s JUGEND GRÜNDET (Youth Start-up) National Finals in Stuttgart. Their concept replaces conventional single-use packaging with a biodegradable alternative made from wheat starch – completely free of crude oil-based plastics.🌾 By combining chemical expertise with entrepreneurial thinking, "TerraTin" addresses one of the most visible sources of everyday waste. “TerraTin tackles the source of daily waste: single-use packaging. Kaja Charlotte Hammels and Tue Minh Vu demonstrate how chemistry can help enable sustainable solutions for everyday life,” said Dr. Kristina Keisers, Investment Manager at ALTANA AG, during the award ceremony. As part of the prize, the winners will visit our ACTEGA division in Vigo, Spain, where they will gain first-hand insights into research, development, and production for the packaging industry. The trip also includes a stop in Porto, Portugal, offering the opportunity to explore one of Europe’s most vibrant and historic cities.
