𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆. 𝗪𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻’𝘁. Because before a request is sent to us, something has usually already happened on board: • A system has stopped working. • A component was incorrectly replaced. • Something was changed somewhere in the setup. Recently, the Spare Parts Team received a request for UHF radios. On paper, everything looked clear. Part numbers were defined. The model was clear. Frequencies to be programmed were included. But the moment our colleague 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰 looked at it, he immediately noticed something didn’t add up. Not because of the item itself, but because of the requested frequencies. He’d seen this before. So instead of confirming the request, he checked back with the vessel. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻’𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱. A moment later, the vessel confirmed they actually needed VHF radios. That’s the kind of detail Marc has learned to recognise over the years. 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘣𝘰𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺. 𝘈𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘮𝘪𝘥𝘥𝘭𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭, 𝘐 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘰𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘥𝘢𝘮 𝘕𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘨𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘭 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘮𝘢𝘻𝘰𝘯 𝘙𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳.” That one detail changed everything. • The right radio was identified before anything was shipped. • No adjustments needed once it arrived on board. • No time lost going back and correcting the setup.
